Disney Lorcana: Archazia’s Island Bundle (Card Game) – Review

We recently received another care package for Disney Lorcana, and initially, I thought it may have been a bit of a mistake. It contained the same Disney Lorcana Archazia’s Island pre-built single-player decks and a handful of booster packs that I had already done an unboxing video for a couple of weeks back, but then I noticed some extra goodies in the box.

While I have written a review for the Disney Lorcana Archazia’s Island sets, which you can read about here, I don’t think we’ve done one for the extra items we received, so I will be focused more on those.

First and foremost was the Illumineer’s Trove, specific to the Archazia’s Island series. In an unboxing video we released just before Christmas, I described this as the ideal gift idea as it’s packed full of goodies. There are eight 12-card booster packs, filled with a random assortment of cards from the Archazia’s Island release, each containing at least one foil of any rarity, two rare or higher cards, three uncommon, and six common cards. The trove also comes with six D6 damage-counter dice, a spinning card Lore counter, seven coloured dividers to help keep your cards separated, and a rather substantial box to keep them all in.

I still think it’s a great gift idea, but we received something that I now know is a bit better. Or at least it is in my opinion.

The Disney Lorcana Gift Box comes with five of those previously mentioned randomised booster packs; however, these are a random selection from previous series, including Rise of the Floodborn, Into the Inklands, Ursula’s Return, Shimmering Skies, and Azurite Sea. With this particular Gift Box featuring Lilo & Stitch, there’s also a themed storage box that can hold up to two hundred and fifty cards and three dividers, but I know what you’re thinking. There is less in that box; how can it be better?

A promotional version of the Lilo – Escape Artist card as a Glimmer Foil. These promotional cards can be highly sought after, as they tend to lean more on the exclusive side of things, and rather than the traditional metallic sheen of a normal foil card, these appear to have a kind of glittery appearance to them, hence the term glimmer. This makes the Disney Lorcana Gift Box the ideal gift for the collector in your life, even if that person is you.

I like the Disney Lorcana playmats – they’re made from a similar material to mousepads, so they’re very durable and gentle on your cards as you play. They also feature the same artwork that can be found on a variety of cards as well, and we happened to receive one featuring Tigger, from Winnie the Pooh, as a pirate, swinging from the crow’s nest – it was easily one of my favourite cards. Measuring 61cm wide and 34.3cm high, they offer plenty of space to spread out while you’re playing, but I feel something is missing.

The paper play mats included with the pre-built decks show labelled sections for placing your cards, helping to keep your cards organised while in play, but the playmats don’t. I’m in two minds about this; it would be a nice thing to have, but on the same token, it would break up the amazing artwork. Even if you’re not using these to play, however, they would (and do) make fantastic mousepads or backdrops for unboxing videos.

Whether you’re collecting your favourite characters or playing the trading card game and following along with protecting your prized cards, we also received card sleeves and a deck box that both feature artwork depicting Cinderella. These are made with durable plastic, with the sleeves being flexible and designed to protect your cards from scratches and maybe some minor spills, while the deck box is better at preventing your cards from being bent – perfect for transporting your unbeatable deck.

As tempted as I was to open everything, I had to refrain. Lance and I had a brief discussion about them when I picked them up, and while it’s always exciting when we receive swag from Disney Lorcana, I can’t keep having all of the fun. You’ll want to follow our socials to see what we have in mind… *Wink*
